Owing to the much speculated rumour all over the media that the former military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) has passed on, the rumour of his death went viral in the social media before it was disproved by his son Mohammed Babandgida. the former military president on Friday the 9th 2016 at 3:30pm arrived Nigeria in a chartered aircraft N550 DR at the Minna International airport after getting medical care in Germany.


The former military President in company of his son, Aminu, and daughter Halima, was received by friends and well wishers at the Minna airport, he was seen dressed in a black caftan coupled with a black cap. 

Those who welcomed the former president at the airport includes, the governor of Niger state, Gov . Sani Bello, former governor A A Kure, his wife and children “Mohammed Babangida, Aisha Babangida, and his daughter” his close friend, Umar Ndanusa, and Idris Adamu Kuta, a former federal permanent secretary.


Though the former president General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida was in a perfect condition as seen at the Minna airport, but did not speak with the media. One of his aides speaking with news men said that the formal president will certainly give attention to the media soon.

The Niger State governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello in a statement said that the nation even now will need ex- military Head  State, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida around for his good guidance as of this crucial time in the country. Still speaking, he gave praises to Allah for preserving the life of the former military president. He said:


“General Ibrahim Babangida remains one of the few leaders in this country that we still need around to tap from their wealth of experience and knowledge and we are grateful he is back and kicking like the old soldier he is . “Your safe return has finally put a lie to the rumour and the evil machinations of those who are playing God. We are grateful to Allah that He has silence them”.

 Also he advised the news media to be more careful in spreading rumours that could cause harm, “It is high time media practitioners, especially those in the social media refrain from broadcasting or publishing falsehood . Aside from questioning the integrity of the media, it portend danger for the society that the media cannot be trusted. “The media should be guided by the ethics of the profession. If you are not sure, don’t share. The social media purported death of General Babangida was reckless, unethical and unwarranted”.  The governor said.

Meanwhile, the arrival of the former military president to the country has put a relieved in the mind of many country men, even as many Nigerians as seen on the social media were happy at the announcement of his death.

  3. How could they misunderstood if he was alive or dead. Doctors really gone crazy, but maybe they have been paid for that.
